App Discover Stockholm developed by The Mobile Life won the award as the year sustainable projects in 2012 CIO Awards handed out by IDG December 6.

Stockholm is amazing! Through tips and guides in one app on your phone, Stockholmers are attracted to consume local experiences instead of travelling abroad. The app is called “Discover Stockholm”, comes from the City of Stockholm, and lists everything from bathing to 4h-farms and giant trees – yes, outdoor activities of all kinds within the City’s municipal boundary. When you find something you want to enjoy the app is connected to Google Transit, and takes you to your destination with the public transport.

– Trend spotting showed that Stockholmer’s want to live urban life, yet more natural experiences. And to experience nature and consume services locally is the climate itself, says Emma Atkins, Project Manager for Climate friendly locals in Stockholm’s Environmental Administration.

– While smartphone usage increased dramatically, so we decided to develop an app that would inspire locals to consume experiences here in their own city, she says.
